Filmmaking and Storytelling with Robert Bradbrook

These two lectures were very interesting to me, here are a few points that I found very useful:

  • Mission statement: it is a sentence that has the theme, the reason, and what it leaves with the audience
  • Being able to summarize the story in a tryptic is useful in knowing the full story
  • Having moments of reflection for the audience is important in order to digest the story, these moments could be during the credits.
  • Its important to focus on character flaws as much as qualities
  • Identifying what your character wants is key to having a good story.

Learning about storytelling and filmmaking feels a bit overwhelming as it has many rules and information. But once you understand that some of them come naturally, it becomes easier to use in projects.
