Clean up lecture and Storyboarding lecture

Clean up lecture with Saffron and Duane

This one was a complete eye opener for me.

Before, I thought being a clean up artist was beneath animation, that it was a complete beginner’s job. However, that’s not the case at all.

I learned that being a clean up artist demands extreme focus and draftsmanship. Being able to translate rough animation into a clean precise line is a high skill.

After this lecture, I have so much more appreciation and respect for clean up artists.

Storyboarding lecture with Bianca

I believe I understand the importance of storyboarding now after this lecture. Storyboarding is like a script for actors.

A point that I found really useful is knowing the key events of a story and categorizing them:

  • Status quo – Assistance – Departure – Approach – Crisis – Treasure – Result – Return – New life – Resolution – Status quo with new level

Writing a story under this structure helps a lot with organizing ideas.

Another point that was very interesting to me is using emotional manipulation against the target audience with Cinematography. Certain angles and levels create different emotions that can be used to support the story.

Also, we were given a script to storyboard it. I realize now after I’ve learned about cinematography that I can change the camera angles to emphasis certain points in the story.
